I am FINALLY in Rome! It still is so unreal to me-I cannot believe I am actually here! The flight over was not so bad-I slept for most of it. I landed around 7:45am Rome time, got my luggage, went through customs, and met up with the people from John Cabot University. Once Brittany (a girl I know who goes to UF) landed we got in a cab to our apartment. We got really lucky-me, Sam (my friend from Michigan State), and Brittany are all rooming together. Our fourth roommate is from Milan and barely speaks any English so this should be interesting. Our apartment has a kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms, and 2 bedrooms. Brittany and I are rooming and Sam is rooming with the other girl. There is a lot of space. Both bedrooms have balconies and there is a big balcony/terrace off the kitchen.
After we unpacked Brittany and I walked down the block to a little market and bought some pasta, chicken, water, and wine for dinner. We also immediately got toilet paper (haha). The rooms have no air conditioning so we went to a little shop and got cheap bedside fans. We still need to get towels (JCU provides us with towels but they are so tiny!).
Once we got back Sam had arrived (yay!). While she unpacked, Brittany and I put away the groceries and walked down the street for a bite to eat. We got slices of pizza at a little pizza shop a block away. They weren't like the pizza we are used to back in the States though. The pieces were square and had a lot less sauce. It was delicious! Once we got back Brittany and I both crashed. We were so tired from traveling!
At around 4:15pm Sam woke me up for the MSU walking tour. Our liaison, if you will, to JCU is Ricarda. All of the students from Michigan State met outside the building and she took us on a stroll around the neighborhood. We stopped at a cute cafe where they fed us. The food was great. We had pasta with tomato and mozzarella cheese, bread with eggplant dip, and rice with a citrus flavoring.
On the walk back it started to pour and Sam and I got soaked. We came back drenched from head to toe. It was a great adventure though and provided us with a great kodak moment.
There are some boys from MSU who live a floor above us. We don't know who our neighbors are yet. Hopefully we will meet them at orientation tomorrow.
Tonight Sam, Brittany and I went to dinner down the street at a Restaurant called Restorante Piazza (or something of the sort). I got caprese salad and fetuccini with meat sauce. Brittany and I split a bottle of Pinot Grigio at dinner and it was only 4 euros.
On the way back to the apartment we stopped and got gelato. I got one with a really long name but basically its cream with chocolate chunks in it. It was delicious!
Tomorrow we get to really start: they are taking us on tours and we have orientation and all that. I cannot wait!
Ciao
