Today started out extremely early. Yesterday I was exhausted for a good part of the day and once everyone left and Brittany and I got into bed, the two of us were wide awake. Which was terrible because we had to be up at 8:00am to meet the bus at 9. When I woke up at 8 I felt like death. I was ssoo tired and cranky. My group of friends all met downstairs at 8:30 to catch the tram. Of course it took forever for the tram to come so at 8:55 I had to call Stephanie (the trip coordinator) to tell them that I, along with 15 other people, were running late. The tram finally got there and we all ran off and sprinted to the cafe we were supposed to meet out. However no one was at the cafe because we were so late that everyone was already on the bus. None of us got to sit together and I wound up more towards the back which was terrible because I get car sick. This bus ride was supposed to be only an hour and it wound up being 2 hours. I was sssoo nauseous at the end, I felt like crap. Most of the girls and I were in such a cranky mood. We were also starving since we didn't have time to eat breakfast. After walking up and down the beach looking for a spot, Olivia and I decided to go up to the restaurant and get lunch. By the way, the beach was so incredibly crowded, there was basically no where to lay. Rebecca came and met Olivia and I at the restaurant. The food was awful. The pastas and pizzas were like frozen dinners that the restaurant just heated up. I actually got a burger. Worst burger I have ever had.
I was in such a bad mood! The beach was not that pretty, it was massively crowded, I was tired, and I did not need to pay 25 euros to sit on a beach that is not even close to as nice as the beach I have at home. This was not a touristy place. It is where all the locals hang out. I would have much rather spent my day at a beautiful beach with clear water. We tried really hard to get chairs under umbrellas because the sun was just too hot to lay under but everything was full. Finally I just put my stuff down with everyone else's and went into the water. That is when my day turned around
The water felt so nice! Everyone was splashing around and having a good time. It totally changed my mood. Then we sat on the sand for a little. After about 15 minutes I could not handle being under the sun for one more minute. So we all got up and walked around town. The town was exactly what you would picture Greece would be like. The houses and shoppes wound all around a mountain and we had to walk up really far to get there. But that was ok because it was beautiful once we finally got there. When we got to the top we sat down at a cafe and all ate gelato. It wound up being a nice day but I was dreading the bus ride back.
I slept for 98% of the bus ride. I couldn't believe it. Once those wheels started moving I completely passed out and woke up with about 15 minutes left on the bus. Everyone was exhausted from the day at the beach so we all just went to our own apartments and did our own thing for dinner. I had the left over eggplant parmesan and some pasta. Brittany and I are spending the night just hanging out in our room playing on our computers. I was able to skype with Mom and Dad today so that was really nice. The first day of class is tomorrow so we are keeping it low key tonight, although I don't have class until 2. My first class is Italian so hopefully my communication will get a little better.
Ciao!
